Improving You This Year

Welcome to 2016! You have been blessed to see another year. So the next question is: What do you plan to do with it? I believe we all want to feel wanted and needed, and the best way to receive those feelings is through living out your purpose. Now determining your purpose is not easy, and there is only one person who knows the answer, God. I have been on the journey of searching for a purpose for a long time, and God has revealed my purpose(s) over time and at the right time. See as much as we search for our purpose we must realize that God responds at the right time. Also, know that each one of your seasons has a purpose, whether it is the same or a new one. However, even though we search hard, we sometimes zoom past the one purpose that we are all given in life, and that is to spread the word of God and love one another. That purpose alone is the main reason I blog, and I love doing it. Just as you will be when you find yours.

Below is a list of things to help guide you as you make your goals for this year. I hope this also encourages you to make some goals  and expect success.

  1. Include God!
    • It is very important to include God in determining your goals for this year because He knows what you need to accomplish and what you can accomplish
      •     “ For I know the plans I have for you says the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
      • “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:33
  1. What is your plan for improvement? What is that one thing you have been telling yourself you need to get done?
    • Do not limit yourself, you are STRONGER than you think. Plus, since you are including God, you have the ultimate help mate and guidance counselor
    • “ I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13
  2. Why is it important that you accomplish these goals?
    • Are you trying to lead by example, dealing with health issues or trying to prevent them, or trying to build confidence in yourself? Whatever the reason, you need a goal and you need to remember it because it will be one of your main motivations.
  3. What are some setbacks you may face?
    • This is a part where you want to look back on your past and see what has prevented you from pursuing these goals or hindered you from completing them. Take those into account when setting your new goals.
  4. What are some of your past successes?
    • Reflecting on what made you successful in the past will let you know what you were doing right. Therefore go back to using the roots that sustained you then. However, know that due to growth and new seasons some of those roots can no longer be sustained.
  5. Who can be a part of your support system?
    • You want to find people who are seeking similar goals or someone who has your best interest at heart. You want someone who is going to tell you like it is and push you regardless of how you feel. This person should be seeking God as well for guidance, so you know that you are both on the same page.
    • “Without good direction, people lose their way, the more wise counsel you follow, the better your chances.” Proverbs 11:14
  6. Now it is time to write it down & plan.
    • This is absolutely my favorite step because I love to plan. You will see me talk about that a lot here. Take the answers to every single one of those questions and write them down. Make it neat, make it colorful, put it in a planner, in a journal, or make a vision board. Do whatever you need to do to focus on these goals and get them done.
    • Do not underestimate yourself and do not overestimate yourself. Keep the goals that you really want to achieve and that you think you can achieve. Limit yourself to about 4 to 5 areas in your life you want to improve in. Remember to re-evaluate your goals every 3-4 months.
    • Here are some handouts to help you on your journey Improving You This Year Handout pdf
    • “Write the vision and make it plain …” Habbakuk 2:2

I hope you enjoyed this post. Please comment below how you liked it and let me know about your success with making and achieving your goals. I wish you the best.
